The French Maritime Academy, ENSM, and 10 French public institutions are getting together to create the IngéBlue interdisciplinary institute

The ENSM is one of the 11 public institutions involved in higher education and research in marine engineering launching the interdisciplinary institute IngéBlue. Its goal? To federate the capacities of these entities in terms of research, innovation and training in maritime engineering, to serve the blue economy. By accompanying French companies and public bodies on technological issues in the maritime area, this academic window wishes to contribute to the performance of the French sector in maritime engineering, to answer global, economic and ecological challenges.
Dedicated to maritime innovation, the IngéBlue Institute is fully integrated into the French maritime ecosystem to ensure interregional academic cooperation at the service of state agencies, companies and communities. As a group of 7 “grandes écoles” (ENSTA Bretagne, ENSTA Paris, ENIB, Centrale Marseille, ENSM, IMT Atlantique, Naval School), 3 universities (UBS, UBO, Toulon) and the Shom (national hydrographic service), it aims to contribute to the strategic autonomy of France and Europe in the maritime field and to strengthen its role in the global blue economy, by being at the forefront of sustainable maritime development and safety in the sectors. The Institute aims to grow rapidly with the admission of other members from the academic world.

• The IngéBlue Institute is open to all institutions involved in higher education and research performing activities in marine engineering.
• IngéBlue aims to develop a close, skilled and reactive coordination of all French stakeholders involved in training and research matters in marine engineering (companies, public bodies, associations …).
• Their collective action in marine engineering will promote the emergence of larger-scale national and international interdisciplinary programs.
• IngéBlue responds to needs in terms of new knowledge, new skills and their rapid transfer to companies and public stakeholders.
• Under the IngéBlue banner, the work will improve in multidisciplinarity, efficiency and visibility.

This development is characterized by an increase in the exploitation of maritime resources of all kinds (food, energy …), an increase in maritime traffic but also an ever more marked interest for environmental and safety issues by civil and military, public and private stakeholders. It also translates into increased competition, including a global race for technological progress in marine engineering. This synergy is essential to respond to a crucial sovereignty challenge for France, the 2^nd largest maritime space in the world.

The IngéBlue institute has prepared, at the beginning of July, 5 collaborative proposals in response to a call for projects from the Defense Innovation Agency (AID). The Institute will position itself on other calls for projects or calls for expressions of interest, determined to develop proposals characterised by the beneficial grouping of strengths and expertise of its members.
