ENSM will be present at the ‘Jeunesse au Large’ day organised by the Navy at the Forum des Pertuis in La Rochelle on Saturday 15 March 2025.
Organised as part of the Year of the Ocean, the event will bring together 400-500 young people aged 16 to 19, including trainees from the Centres de Préparation Militaire Marine and young people from a variety of backgrounds to share their experiences of the sea: Jeunes Sapeurs, Orphelins Apprentis d’Auteuil, Défense 2e chance, leisure clubs, etc.
The aim of the day is to give young people the opportunity to discover the Navy and the sea, by following a trail led by the French Navy, maritime administrations, scientific bodies and partner companies. The aim is to provide young people with knowledge about the sea, its resources, its role in our daily lives and the challenges of protecting it, to present the various maritime professions and to gain a better understanding of the French Navy, its missions and its professions.
The programme
The day will be punctuated mainly by two 2-hour workshops, from 9.30am to 11.30am in the morning and from 3pm to 5pm in the afternoon. These workshops are intended to be interactive and dynamic, so that the young people can share and learn by listening – in particular to other young people (sailors, fishermen, workers, engineers, scientists, etc.) and by actively participating in activities.
The workshops are divided into 4 themes :
- The French Navy and government action at sea (Navy operations, Navy jobs, maritime surveillance, etc.)
- Marine sciences (marine bioresources, the ocean’s role in climate, mapping the seabed, the fight against pollution and plastics, etc.)
- Economic activities at sea (shipbuilding, merchant navy, MREs, etc. to talk about professions, technologies, the challenges of maritime transport, etc.).
- Daring with the Sea (ocean racing, expeditions and sea rescue)
