MEDICAL INITIATION II
AUDIENCE CONCERNED
On board ships armed with a crew role and not having an on-board doctor, medical assistance at sea shall be provided by:
– designated emergency medical staff
– staff designated to be responsible for medical care
In order to be appointed to one of these functions, the staff must have acquired a level of competence enabling them, under the supervision of the physician of the maritime medical consultation centre, to take immediate effective measures in the event of an accident or illness on board the ships, and this during the time necessary for the injured or sick person to be supported by a medical care structure if necessary.
Any person designated to provide emergency care and by any person designated to provide medical care on board commercial vessels of gross tonnage less than 500 UMS not further than 200 miles from the coast and ships of boating with a crew role.

Hold the Medical I certification
OBJECTIVES
Acquire medical knowledge to enable personnel designated for medical care to take immediate effective action in the event of an accident or illness on board, during the time necessary for the patient to be treated by a medical care facility.
