2025 – Internship01 – LCO2 carrier vessel design
OBJECTIVES:
Over the next decade, the ship owners will need to increase effort to fight against climate change by reducing the CO2 emission of their ships. The carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology is one of the solutions which could be easily implemented on board.
In addition to the CCS, different transportation options between capture sites and storage locations need to be provided. In this context d2m would like to develop concept of a liquid CO2 carriers to anticipate the further demand.
The purpose of the internship is to develop a preliminary LCO2 carrier vessel design of about 20,000 m3. The ship will be able to navigate with Zero NOx emission for a limited distance only. The LCO2 transporter should also be highly limited in the emission of CO2.
The intern will be able to rely on another preliminary LCO2 carrier vessel design with a bigger capacity (around 60,000 m3).
Main Internship tasks will include:
• State of the art of LCO2 carrier vessel or similar
• Rules analysis for LCO2 storage and transportation
• Investigation on Zero NOx emission solutions
• Preliminary naval architecture loop based on the selected concept
• Vessel main characteristics
• Tank capacity plan, General Arrangement
• Cargo capacity
• Intact Stability on selected tank arrangement
• Energy saving devices alternative (propulsion, lubricate air, assisted wind propulsion, carbon capture onboard, alternative fuel (Bio diesel/LNG /methanol)
INPUT DATA
• Relevant Vessel drawings and documents
• d2m tools and software for calculations
