2025 – Internship05 – Naval detailed design tools implementation
OBJECTIVES:
In the face of the climate emergency, the shipping industry is doing substantial investments toward new less-polluting fuel ship design and retrofit of existing fleet. d2m is supporting those innovations and provide expertise to support ship owners on all structural aspects from design to building. This implies to take part in preliminary studies, design and calculation, class approval and shipyard supervision.
d2m currently work on several METHANOL RETROFIT projects for major companies of shipping industry and plan to extend its expertise and services to become a key player in the evolution of marine shipping. The intern will have the opportunity to assist structural engineers in proceeding of analytical and digital ship structural design, develop and improve internal detailed design process on the basis of internal and commercial tools (FEMAP Nastran, Autocad, etc.), and build knowledge on leading project over months of work among a professional team (steering, review, reporting).
The leading internship project will be based on the improvement of d2m detailed design principles process based on CAD tools, including a benchmark and selection of a new dedicated CAD tool. Emphasis will have to be given on weld types selection, gathering internal knowledge and helping updating it throughout a state of art to be synthetized and presented by the student.
As a member of structural engineer team, the main internship tasks will include:
• 3D modelling and design
• Basic analytic structural calculation (beam, pressure, load…)
• Finite element calculations using FEMAP Nastran (static & fatigue)
• Improvement of internal design process & workflow
INPUT DATA
• Relevant Vessel drawings and documents
• d2m tools and softwares for structural design and calculations
• Internal and external knowledges
DELIVRABLES
• Weld types selection state of art
• CAD software benchmark report
• Internship report
