CHIEF MECHANIC (M/F)

Certified minimum CHEF MECANICIEN 3000 AND necessary valid certificates
(better if multi-skilled from CAPTAIN 500 upwards)

Responsibilities at management level: operation and conservation of equipment, tools on board, maintenance of vessels and their services; repairs will be carried out in accordance with the procedures in force and the instructions, if necessary, of the Chief Engineer; uses the CMMS (‘Semaphore’).

Tasks falling within the scope of normal mechanic duties include (non-exhaustive list):

-Checking the maintenance and upkeep of the ferries, including servicing, basic work (mechanical, electrical, boiler making, navigation equipment, etc.) required to maintain service, safety and the general good condition of the vessel.

-Ordering fuel, requesting quotes for spares, small equipment and consumables relating to the ships and operating structures, with the support of the crew;

-helping to ensure that the berthing facilities, passenger shelters, premises and any other facilities forming part of the waterway equipment are in good order;

-reporting any anomalies encountered (technical report);

-taking part in preparing and carrying out safety drills;

-repair faults. If, due to their seriousness or technical nature, an outside workshop is required, the chief mechanic will request its intervention.

ARMING
The Syndicat Mixte des Traversées du Delta du Rhône (SMTDR), a public institution for local cooperation (CD13 and Arles town council), organises, operates and finances a public ferry service (ROPAX vessels under AFFMARS/ENIM administration, subject to the ISM code), to provide territorial continuity between RD36 and RD35, crossing the Rhône (400 m) between SALIN DE GIRAUD (13129 ARLES, PACA region) and PORT SAINT LOUIS.

The ships
Classified as a ro-ro passenger ship (BAC type): 196 pax; 4PL + 24VL; Crew: 1 captain, 1 chief engineer, 2 deckhands, LOA: 57 m, JB: 498, PP: 2 x UD25 V12 M4 Wartsila 2 x 570 Kw; propulsion 2 VSP16 5-blade ‘VOITH’; Classified as BV Machine ‘AUT’. Berthing is by means of dolphins and loading/unloading operations are carried out, H 22/24, by means of gangways on docks adaptable to the height of the Rhône and by so-called WARREN gangways on floating pontoons. Average annual activity on the link: 50,000 crossings, 850,000 pax.

Job specifications:
Position on fixed-term contract to be filled as soon as possible (duration to be determined with the candidate); Tides: 12 days work / 12 days leave / rest acquired (or 16/16); Shifts of 6 h/d followed by rest ashore accommodated in single room (house on site with kitchen, m at …. ); Shift sequence: EVENING (19-2) – AFTERNOON (14-19) – DAY (10-14) – MORNING (4-10) and so on during the tide; Approximate net salary of 4200 €/m (including profit-sharing, end-of-year bonus and others); Category: 12e ENIM; Collective agreement: GASPE; Privileged natural environment (Rhone Delta with miles of unspoilt beaches…Camargue Regional Park). You must be an experienced mechanic (although on-board maintenance does not exceed 3rd level: minor mechanical repairs, fault identification and diagnosis, adjustments). Ability to adapt and work as part of a team, sense of responsibility and public service.
