
River Navigation Captain
We’re looking for a Captain to join our team. As Captain, the most senior person on board, you will make all the decisions in charge of navigation and supervise the crew.
As such, you will be responsible for handling and loading the cargo, as well as ensuring the safety of passengers, if any.
Your mission is to bring the cargo and the ship safely to port.
The ‘pusher barge’ unit measures 22.70m.
Working hours: 7am – 2.20pm Monday to Friday, with a 20-minute break.
Activities and duties :
o Checks all safety devices and the correct operation of the ship’s instruments o Ensures the maintenance of materials and equipment as well as PPE inherent to navigation (PFDs, hearing protection, helmets)
o Loads and unloads goods and products (transhipment) for delivery to the city centre in one or more shifts per day
o Ensures that freight is delivered and properly stored on board
o Carries out departure, piloting, towing, berthing and bunkering manoeuvres
o Manages navigation: monitors the trajectory and chooses the right options according to navigation constraints
o Ensures compliance with traffic rights
o Manages the crew – Coordinates the navigation teams
o Ensures the safety of passengers (visitors)
o Trigger emergency measures in the event of an incident
o Takes part in the recruitment of cabin crew and trains new arrivals for their new position (safety prevention, etc.)
o Enter the required information in the logbook
o Enter daily journeys
Means and prerogatives: Barge-type vessel + pusher – VHF radio – logbook
Type of job: Full-time/part-time permanent contract
Remuneration: €14.00 to €19.00 per hour
Number of hours: 35 hours per week
Experience in river navigation: Beginner accepted
Job location: In person, in Lyon and/or Strasbourg
Starting date: To be agreed as soon as possible.
