Seaman on the Seine
Every year, the Seine-Maritime Department’s ferry service enables more than 3 million vehicles to cross the Seine. The operating hours of the ferries and the frequency with which they run are determined so as to provide users with a local, high-quality service, and thus meet the needs of both personal and business travellers.
A total of eight ferries are managed and operated by the Département. These link the two banks of the river from Canteleu to Quillebeuf-sur-Seine. A practical and economical mode of transport that contributes to the quality of life of its users. This public service, which is essential for opening up the areas between the loops of the Seine, considerably reduces distances and journey times. Two types of ferry provide the link from one bank to the other: sea ferries, which have a capacity of around 30 vehicles and can carry all types of heavy goods vehicle, and river ferries, which have a capacity of around 10 to 12 vehicles. This fleet is currently being modernised to combine quality of service with respect for the environment.
As part of the ferry operations department, you will be responsible for deckhand duties on board one or other of the two sea ferries (Duclair or Quillebeuf-sur-Seine), as well as managing traffic and placing vehicles for users boarding and leaving the ferries.
